Meg Fletcher
Fashion & Textile Artist
Based in Northumberland, England, I am a fashion and textile artist working across a range of creative projects. After graduating in Fashion Design, I have built a practice that moves between fashion, object, and wider forms of design, guided by storytelling and the emotional presence
Creating garments and conceptual collections will always be at the core of my practice. It is the ideas and execution that ground my work ethos. Alongside this, I develop and execute ideas in different formats, depending on the project's needs.
Narrative and exploration will always sit at the centre of what I do. A background in theatre shaped the way I think about character, transformation, and the role creative work plays in how something is seen or felt. Whether through garment, object, or performative projects, I am interested in how something can hold presence and meaning, even when it is not being worn or used.
My process usually begins with a spark of an idea, or a deep interest in something I don’t yet understand. I draw from different areas, including performance, personality, personal emotional experience, with a specific current research interest in enclothed cognition and character creation. I am not tied to one discipline, which allows each project to become what it needs to be.
Collaboration is an important part of my practice. Working with other creatives brings a different level of thinking and pushes ideas further than they would go alone. I enjoy bringing people together, particularly across the North East, and building something stronger through shared skills and perspectives. While this is where I am based, my work is not limited to this area. It is where I am from and where I work best, but not where I am confined.
Alongside this, I am developing separate spaces for my brands. CHARACTERS focuses on ready-to-wear womenswear and identity through dress. Of This Place explores print and product through a connection to location. This site represents my wider creative work.
I am interested in working on projects that need both ideas and execution. I want to be involved from the early stages, helping to shape the direction as well as making the outcome. I am not looking to simply produce a finished idea, but to contribute creatively from the start.
If you have a project that needs a creative perspective and someone to bring it into reality, I would love to hear from you.
